The brand new Mercedes Benz EQC has just been launched as their ‘Tesla killer’ all electric vehicle.
The new EQC: now electric has a Mercedes.
When Tesla, now a 15 year old company, told everyone the future is electric for transportation nobody listened. I’m sure Mercedes, now a 130 year old company didn’t.
Mercedes have been pumping out millions of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) cars every year, for a very long time. Now it tells you something when their latest and greatest car reveal is an EV. Right?
This launch has a lot more meaning to it than just another EV car. It shows that EVs are becoming more popular, so popular that a historic and gigantic company such as Mercedes has recognised this shift in consumer opinion and desires and have chosen to act upon it. Personally I think this is a great step forward. The exposure for EV cars will increase massively from this one launch.
As expected from Mercedes, it has all of the current high quality features of their executive cars because this is the market they are aiming for. There is no official sale date other than 2020 or price but you would assume that it would be somewhere around the price of a Tesla Model X. As for battery size they have kept this quiet too.
It’s potential is massive, some saying a Model X killer. We will have to see. But for now it’s super positive to see this titan of car manufacturing wake up to the reality of future transport.
